On October 9, 2024, the Department of Agriculture, Food, and Environment (Di3A) of the University of Catania opened its doors to students from the Liceo Cutelli Salanitro in Catania and the Liceo Tommaso Campailla in Modica, offering a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of researc h, education, and sustainability as part of the orientation activities.

During the visit, the students participated in an interactive open lesson, exploring the department’s cutting edge laboratories, where science and technology come together to tackle en vironmental challenges. However, the most engaging experience was the visit to our innovative **green roof**, a tangible example of sustainable infrastructure.

This green space is not just a symbol of ecological innovation, but also an open
air classroom w here young minds could directly understand how nature based solutions can improve the quality of life in urban areas. As they walked among the plants, the students observed how the green roof helps reduce rainwater runoff and improves the thermal insulatio n of buildings, reflecting on how small sustainable choices can have a significant social and technical impact on our region.

The students’ enthusiasm and curiosity demonstrated how crucial it is to engage new generations in sustainability and scientific r esearch. The green roof at Di3A is not just an innovative project, but also a source of inspiration for those who will shape the future.
