“Green roofs represent a paradigm shift; we work so that flooding due to rain no longer occurs.” This was the explanation given to MeridioNews by Professor Enrico Foti, from the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture. The green roof, installed at the bioscientific hub on Via Santa Sofia of the Department of Agriculture, Food and Environment at the University of Catania, marks a turn towards innovation.
This initiative stems from the Gifluid project, funded through the Interreg V-A Italy-Malta 2014-2020 program, coordinated by Professor Giuseppe Cirelli. “This is the largest green roof implemented in Sicily by a public institution,” Cirelli emphasizes to MeridioNews.
