The GREEN LAB on “Design of nature-based solutions for hydraulic risk mitigation in urban and sub-urban contexts” is organized by the Department of Agriculture, Food and Environment (Di3A) of the University of Catania and the Energy Water Agency – EWA of Malta, in collaboration with the Engineers’ Association of the Province of Catania, the Association of Agricultural and Forestry Doctors of the Province of Catania, the Order of Architects Planners, Landscape and Conservationists of the Province of Catania, and the CSEI Catania – Center for Applied Engineering Economics.
The GREEN LAB is carried out within the activities of the GIFLUID Project – Green infrastructures to mitigate flood risks in urban and extra-urban areas and to improve the quality of rainwater discharges (INTERREG VA Italy-Malta Program 2014-2020). The GIFLUID project, led by the Department of Agriculture, Food, and Environment- Di3A of the University of Catania, and in partnership with the Energy Water Agency (Malta), the Technical Department of the Sicilian Region, the Rabat Local Council (Malta), and the municipality of Aci Castello, aims to promote sustainable solutions for rainwater management in urban and suburban areas through the use of green roofs, rain gardens, permeable pavements, etc…
The GREEN LAB, to be held in Catania, aims to bring together and connect technicians and professionals from the cross-border areas of Sicily and Malta to identify common strategies for managing urban and sub-urban runoff through nature-based solutions, with special attention to the metropolitan area of Catania and some urban areas of Malta.
The GREEN LAB will be conducted in either Italian or English. All participants are required to have knowledge of the technical drawing program AutoCAD or similar and must be equipped with a laptop for the exercises scheduled in the afternoon session.
